De seneste mange år har man kunnet få utallige apps til sin mobiltelefon inklusive en række sjove mobilspil. Udviklerne bag spillene bliver hele tiden dygtigere, og spillene mere avancerede. Men betyder den seneste teknologiske udvikling egentlig begyndelsen på enden for spillekonsollen?

I dag vil mange gerne have uafhængigheden til at spille der, hvor de befinder sig. Det er ikke alle, som har tid og mulighed for at afsætte flere timer til at sidde foran en stationær enhed, men som foretrækker at spille på deres trådløse enheder i for eksempel bussen på vej til arbejde. Stort set alle de store producenter af spillekonsoller har for længst indset dette og er blandt de største fortalere for at indføre cloud gaming.

Da Microsoft, Nintendo og Sony i 2012 udgav deres seneste spillekonsol, var det ottende generation siden lanceringen af de første videospilskonsoller i 1970erne. Men er tiden inde til, at videospilskonsollen skal lide samme skæbne som dvd’en, cd’en, video- og kassettebåndene? Det er der noget der tyder på. Så sent som i januar 2019 antydede Nintendos direktør Shuntaro Furukawa, at virksomheden planlægger en fremtid uden spillekonsoller.

Game streaming er fremtiden

En af årsagerne til at spillekonsoller ikke formodes at overleve ret meget længere, skyldes såkaldt game streaming, som bruger cloud-teknologi som erstatning for konsollen.

Game streaming kendes allerede i flere sammenhænge som for eksempel med live casinoer som Unibet casino, hvor spillerne kan få den autentiske fornemmelse af at være på et fysisk casino med en live dealer. Her kan man for eksempel se dealeren dele kortene ud, og det er også muligt at live chatte med ham undervejs i spillet.

En af de ting som truer spillekonsollernes eksistens, er cloud gaming-tjenesten Google Stadia, som forventes at blive lanceret i 2019. Denne tjeneste kræver ingen computer-hardware, men blot et internetforbindelse og adgang til Google Chrome-browseren.

Navnet Stadia er flertalsbetegnelsen for stadion, som afspejler en samling af underholdning, som man både kan overvære eller deltage i. Og i modsætning til den måde, man tidligere har spillet mange videospil online, kræver denne tjeneste ikke en PC, men kan også spilles direkte fra smarttelefoner og tablets. Og også de alle andre store spillekonsolsproducenter har deres egne alternativer til spillekonsollen i pipelinen.

Fremtidens mobilspil

Selvom spilkonsollen nok ikke forsvinder i løbet af natten, vil det i fremtiden blive mere almindeligt, at vi spiller videospil på vores smartenheder som telefonen eller tabletten. Det er måske ikke muligt at spille på helt samme måde på mobiltelefonen, som man gør på en PC eller en konsol, men teknologien er i rivende udvikling, så det kan ske, før man ved af det.

Opskriften på succes for videospil på mobil og tablets er at tage gamle succesfulde spil og lave dem om til en mobilversion. Ud over cloud streaming vil 5G også være noget, som påvirker videospil i fremtiden. Mange tænker måske automatisk, at hastighed er det vigtigste, når man spiller, men selvom det absolut er vigtigt, er det den lave forsinkelse, som vil gøre den helt store forskel.
